At the Bank on Boxing Day
Went to the bank with the folks after lunch. Initially, I was just supposed to deposit the cheque I received for selling off all my Premium Capital Fund units. But Mum decided to withdraw her money as well, so we all went to the bank. First stop was to the bank formerly known as ‘5outhern Bank Bhd’. There was a HUGE crowd in there and when I took a number at the Queue Ticketing machine, it was ‘1234′. Currently serving: 1220. I think we waited around 20-30 minutes.
While waiting, I noticed a guy sitting on a chair and he looked familiar. He saw me too and there might have been recognition there as well. We could have been attending the same secondary school. He could have been just one of those guys my eyes looked past every once in a while.
Soon, our number was called and we made the transactions. A small stack of RM50 bills was passed over the counter and we then walked several meters to my bank. Went in and filled up the relevant forms, and then sat next to my Mum to get my bearings. The Queue Ticketing Machine/system was out of order. I had to join a very long queue to get to the counters. After thirty minutes, I managed to get halfway. My Dad had arrived by then and I mentioned to him that I saw people using the Cash Deposit machine. If I could use that while I queued to deposit my cheque, I wouldn’t be taking too much time at the counter. The man standing in front of me spoke up and explained how the Cash Deposit machine worked. He was very helpful and spoke English well. I then mentioned to him that if I knew how much commission to deduct for depositing a cheque, I would use the Cheque Deposit Machine myself. And he said that the bank would settle that later. As I passed by my parents, my Mum said that Dad was having difficulty using it. The machine found fault with one of the notes. I exchanged it with a RM50 note of my own and it was settled.
Then I filled in the Cheque Deposit Slip. One customer asked me how to insert the cheque into the machine and I wasn’t sure myself. Dad helped the man and he thanked us. Then I deposited the cheque and we then left the bank at 4pm.
