It’s New Year’s Eve

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

Just in case I don’t get the chance to access this site later, I’d like to wish the two/three readers of this blog a very happy new year 2007!!

Here’s to new opportunities and happiness with those we know and those we’ll meet in the coming year.

To those closer to home who are celebrating Hari Raya Haji, “Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha!”

In memoriam: Latte (Jan 2, 2003).

What I Got From KL

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

Before going to KL, I was bitten by the craft bug and planned to get some card punches and perhaps a card-making book. When I got to MPH at MidValley and I looked through some of the books there, I realized that they were really OVERPRICED! By the time I got the idea to just look for inspiration online, I didn’t have any time to look at the card punches. Price in Kinokuniya and MPH are the same for the CarlaCraft punches: RM13 for the smaller sized ones. RM18 for the bigger punches. RM22 (or was it RM28?) for the corner punches.

One day before leaving for home, I went to Czip Lee, in Kajang. First I got my cutting mat (RM9) and then I found the punches. Same CarlaCraft punches were being sold at RM12! The bigger ones were RM16.50! Arrghhh!

In the end, I got:

  1. Five CarlaCraft punches (balloon, cake, vinca, folk star, cloud). I refuse to buy the Xmas tree punch.
  2. Cutting mat
  3. Sandwich bag (to put glitter in - just pop in card with glue in right places and shake, no mess!)

Didn’t buy any colourful A4-sized cards, I’m settling for the wood-free paper I bought a year ago. I think I could live in that stationery shop. So many interesting things to see.

Oh, I went to the supermarket today and bought some glitter pens made in China. Just one pen, many different coloured refills. Only RM3.20. Cheap! I also bought an eraser. I’m going to try making a rubber stamp using it. I couldn’t find heart-shaped punches, so maybe I’ll do heart-shaped stamps instead.

About Why Pay More?

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

There’s a store called ‘Why Pay More?’ in MidValley that sells sporting goods direct from the factory. There are no shoe boxes to put the shoes in when you buy them.

When I was there, I found a nice pair of shoes. They were a size 9½. Three velcro straps, non-marking soles. Adidas, made in China. I had NO idea what kind of shoes they were, but they were comfortable (one size too big, I think) and they only cost RM99. The shoes on offer were arranged according to size. they were all in a jumble and you had to dig between the football shoes and basketball shoes to find something worthy. There was another pair of ’shoes’ and they cost RM149.50. The sole had holes in them (you could see the fabric of the shoe through them), and when worn, it felt as if you would be able to feel the stones underfoot. It was extremely light and flexible. I felt that they were weren’t suited for walking, and could be yoga shoes for all I knew. I wasn’t going to walk around in funny-looking shoes and showing people that I didn’t know what I was wearing on my feet.

Well, after doing some research, I do believe that the shoes I bought are the Adidas Zerin. White and Blue. Manufactured 05/05. Some sites say it’s a leisure shoe, others say that it is a workout shoe. Hmmm…

A Reason For Streamyx Being Sucky

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

According to news reports, the earthquake in Taiwan damaged the submarine cables that are vital for Internet and voice communications. Read the news report from The Star. In the news tonight, Malaysian internet users were advised to refrain from surfing overseas websites (eeek, Today.com counts as well!) unless it was absolutely necessary.

I have three more posts to go. I’d say being here is definitely necessary! Oh yeah, I did say yesterday that I was going to post all day. Sorry about that. I decided to accompany my Mum to a small supermarket (what with the Internet being so slow and all). I was thinking of looking for a small toolbox to keep all my craft stuff. Too many things are kept separate and I can’t even find my Chinese ink to use for stamping my name in Chinese calligraphy. *pout*

I shall not be posting snapshots until the Internet situation improves - which is expected to be between two to three weeks.

I understand that sites such as Friendster, MySpace, Xanga and a few other American-based sites are practically impossible to access. Thank goodness for Today.com. ;)

New Theme

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

Just noticed a lot of new themes available. Trying this one out for a bit. It does seem to match the title, being ‘night’ and all. Which do you prefer? Fall or Night? Please leave a comment if you want.

My thoughts so far:

  1. Doesn’t have the ‘Continue Reading’ link. You actually have to mouseover the title to realize that you can continue reading the rest of the post by clicking it.
  2. Doesn’t have nice border around the photos.
  3. It displays my profile - eek!
  4. Doesn’t tell me how many posts there are in a month, just how many in a category.
  5. Doesn’t have a link to edit the post when viewing it.
  6. Doesn’t seem to like uppercase letters.
  7. Doesn’t like spaces between words.

It’ll take some getting used to.

Day Three (10th Dec)

Published by sharlinin under Daily Snippets Edit This

Chandelier

The day of my cousin’s wedding. Sis took the opportunity to tame my eyebrows. It was a very painful experience and by the time I saw my bloodied brow area, I had expected to see no eyebrows. XD

Accompanied my sis to her hairdresser (she wanted to have a trim and a wash). The place had hair all over the floor, the seats were worn and sitting on them was an exercise in trying not to fall through. There was a long wait, and we finally decided to try our luck elsewhere.

We crossed the street and looked for shop signs - anything that said ‘Kedai Mendandan Rambut’ or ‘Saloon’ (sic), but saw nothing. Just before we turned back, I noticed an image of a woman stuck to a wall on the inside of a staircase. There was no sign, but I pointed it out to my sis. We approached the image and true enough, it was what we were looking for. This shop was much better (I was rather wary, didn’t want to be blamed for taking my sis to an overpriced salon). I decided to have my fringe/bangs trimmed.

To be continued.

Streamyx sucks

Published by sharlinin under Just Because Edit This

I managed to get online early this morning (then went back to sleep), just after noon, a few minutes after lunch and then…

I couldn’t get online (server taking too long to respond) for the next 7 hours or so. I was ready to tear out my hair! And I was afraid that if I couldn’t get online for the next four days, I could kiss my cheque goodbye. Phew. Next on the agenda: Post eight entries in one day! I have to do it. I promise I will do it come hell or high water. As long as streamyx behaves.

I’ll be back!

At the Bank on Boxing Day

Published by sharlinin under Daily Snippets Edit This

Star Bright

Went to the bank with the folks after lunch. Initially, I was just supposed to deposit the cheque I received for selling off all my Premium Capital Fund units. But Mum decided to withdraw her money as well, so we all went to the bank. First stop was to the bank formerly known as ‘5outhern Bank Bhd’. There was a HUGE crowd in there and when I took a number at the Queue Ticketing machine, it was ‘1234′. Currently serving: 1220. I think we waited around 20-30 minutes.

I don’t think I can remember that far back, but I’ll write this in point form. I’ll come back to it later.
